Snapchat UI Redesign

Well, why?

With over 180 million active users daily, Snapchat is one of the most successful and trendiest social networks. Since I like using Snapchat myself and see a lot of potential in the app, I thought it was a pity when Snapchat took some steps backwards in the user interface in the last months. The entire design has been structured in an illogical way and more and more the advertising of large corporations is in the foreground instead of the personal exchange of users. Accordingly, I made it my task some time ago to redesign the app.

Get rid of everything that is not essential to making a point.
— Bill Lord, Creative Technologist at Mad*Pow

When designing this project, my focus was primarily on the implementation of an idea that puts people and the users connected to them at the centre. Targeted categorizations in “Best Friends"; and “All Friends"; allow a quick and intuitive use. The implementation of commercial articles has not been lost, if you are interested you can still reach it with only two touches.

Colors

As with every project, the choice of color plays an important role, especially in UI design. In this respect, it is particularly important to maintain the existing corporate design of the brand and, if necessary, to supplement it with additional harmonious colour tones. My focus here was mainly on the following questions:

  • Which Colors match best?

  • Which colours harmonise with the iOS software?

  • How do I create something new without changing what already exists?
